SEO Content Writing for Users & Google | Web Shop Manager

Google constantly states that websites should focus on producing quality content for users and not search engines. With the main focus of SEO efforts being so wrapped up in targeting keywords and trying to rank highly on the SERP, this is a hard pill to swallow. People love beautifully designed sites, but content is still king, and there needs to be compelling SEO copy for both users to want to stay on the page and for Google to crawl and index your page.

1) Write interesting and captivating title tags that draw people in.

Write interesting and captivating title tags for SEO

The title tag for every page should be different and unique to avoid your own pages attempting to outrank each other leading to SEO cannibalism and your site devouring itself within the SERP. Keep your title tags at or under 60 characters both for users (nobody likes to read a long title) and for search engines to keep it from cutting off in the SERP. It does not matter if you optimize your site perfectly for a search engine – if a user does not find it compelling enough to click on, all your effort has gone to waste.

2) Write creative and unique quality content that will entice others to write about it or share it

Write creative and unique quality content for sharing

Writing quality content that is “share” and “like” worthy can have a huge impact on your rankings and overall presence on the web. Not only will this create links to your content, it will draw in more regular readers.

Sharing quality content with a network of potential customers

Most people are friends with like-minded people, so if you can get one person to read and enjoy your content, they can potentially share it with an entire network of potential customers.

3) Ensure that your site is designed in a user friendly way

Making it easy for people to navigate through your site and find information they are seeking easily is incredibly important when it comes to getting repeat visitors and shared content. Mobile responsive design is also important as many people now shop on their phones and tablets, whether it is from the couch or in the airport waiting for their layover flight. Keep your color scheme basic and simple, with impactful accent pieces here and there or with a stand out image that makes your page nice to look at and return to. Too much information can overwhelm a visitor and appear spammy – keep it simple!

When engaging in SEO content writing, it is important to remember that your focus should always be on the user first and search engines second. That is not saying that you should not do keyword research and write proper meta information – it is important to make sure your page has proper SEO. Just make sure that your content is user friendly, and quality content that people will be excited about and find useful.
